Fall Capstone Course Registration Now Open

Posted On:

Registration is now open for the Starkloff Career Academy Fall 2018 Capstone Course beginning September 25th. This 8-week course for skilled job seekers is one-of-its-kind in the region. Over 75% of course graduates find meaningful employment within a year.

This is the 12th Capstone Course hosted by Starkloff Career Academy, and this time things are going to get arty.

Starkloff Disability Institute has partnered with the Center of Creative Arts’, COCAbiz to deliver two classes on improvisation, cooperative collaboration and storytelling. COCAbiz provides arts-based education to business leaders designed to encourage creative, outside-the-box thinking as a new way to address problems in the workplace.

“This is hugely exciting for us,” Jason Hartsfield, Career Academy Associate says. This will be the fourth Capstone Course and sixth class Jason has instructed for the Starkloff Career Academy. “Some of the most important skills our candidates need to master are in public speaking, storytelling and creative writing,” he details. “Having COCAbiz involved will encourage our candidates to think more creatively about their job hunt. We’re working closely with them to ensure their workshops are fully accessible.”

In addition, Starkloff Career Academy is partnering with Nestle Purina for a full-day of training and interviews at their corporate headquarters in St. Louis. Enterprise Holdings will host a half-day of the same at their headquarters in Clayton, and Wells Fargo will be joining us in the classroom at Starkloff Disability Institute’s office in Downtown St. Louis.

“Our corporate partners have a bigger impact than anything else we do in the Capstone Course,” Jason says. “They help us make the classroom a safe space for candidates to ask recruiters questions and get honest answers.”

This year’s Capstone Course will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., from September 25 to November 15. Classes will be held at the Starkloff Disability Institute at 133 South 11th Street, Suite 500, St. Louis, MO 63143.

Funding for the Capstone Course is available through Missouri Vocational Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Services for the Blind. Scholarships are always available thanks to Starkloff Disability Institute’s tremendous donors.

Registration ends September 18. To register, email Jason Hartsfield at jhartsfield@starkloff.org or call 314-588-7090. For more information, visit our website at www.starkloff.org.
