New Online Course for Companies

Posted On:

SDI is excited to share a new online training resource for employers from our partners at National Technical Institute for the Deaf.

The new “Working Together: Deaf and Hearing People” online course is available to help employers develop the sensitivity and skills to communicate effectively with deaf and hard-of-hearing employees, enable deaf and hearing colleagues to work together more productively, and assist in fostering a workplace culture of diversity and inclusion. The five self-guided modules in the course cover topics on Myths and Definitions, Hearing Loss, Deaf culture, Communication, and Accommodation and Inclusion in the Workplace.   The online course can be accessed at http://workingtogether.deaftec.org/

For additional information about recruiting, hiring and working with our deaf and hard-of hearing students and graduates, visit the NCE website at http://www.ntid.rit.edu/nce.

SDI has hosted the “Working Together: Deaf and Hearing People” workshop live and in-person with the trainers from NTID three times in St. Louis since 2013. We are pleased to share that now even more employers can take advantage of this insightful training, without ever leaving their desk!

“I am thrilled that an increased number of HR professionals will have a greater understanding of deaf culture and best practices in hiring,” Colleen Starkloff concludes.
