On September 13, Starkloff was a featured presenter at Mercy Healthcare’s MPower U Employment Advocacy Workshop. The goal of this workshop was to introduce job seekers to pathways to employment with Mercy Healthcare. It was held at St. Anthony’s Medical Center. Sixty-three people attended, including job developers and job seekers from across the region.
The morning began with a presentation by Barb Martin and Jennie Feinberg, recruiters with Mercy, who discussed the ins-and-outs of the Mercy application process. Starkloff’s Adult Career Services Coordinator Jason Hartsfield joined throughout to discuss the all-important topics of disability disclosure and how to request accommodations.
Later, Ayanna Baldwin, Human Resources Leader, presented on Mercy’s culture and what potential employees should expect when entering employment at Mercy. Finally, the team answered questions from the audience.
The event was the product of weeks of collaboration between Starkloff Disability Institute and Mercy Healthcare. Dana Brodeur, Manager of Disability Inclusion Services, and Paul Lenhart, Disability Inclusion Coordinator, took the lead roles in planning and organizing the event.
“I was extremely excited to be invited to participate,” said Jason. “Thanks to our close partners like Dana and Paul, Starkloff Disability Institute is being recognized as the expert on disability employment in our area. I want to thank them and everyone involved for allowing us to share our expertise with jobseekers.”
