SDI’s first installment of a new webinar series brings networking to the forefront

Posted On:

Starkloff Disability Institute launched its new Webinar Series on April 24th, with help from guest presenter Jim Beirne, the Director of External Relations for the Washington University Career Center.

The premier webinar, titled “Introduction to LinkedIn and Virtual Networking,” was attended by over 80 people, including job seekers and professionals from the disability employment community.

Beirne provided a guide for creating a LinkedIn account, including the best practices for getting the attention of recruiters. He then gave a detailed model to finding and connecting with other professionals through LinkedIn. This included a description of what to say when messaging a potential new connection. Finally, Mr. Beirne took questions from the audience.

Feedback for the webinar was overwhelmingly positive, with one audience member proclaiming the webinar was, “The best in every way!”

Jim Beirne is an international career services and recruiting leader, having designed and implemented career development programs and talent selection strategies at the Wharton School, General Mills, Hewlett Packard and currently at Washington University in St Louis.

The Starkloff Webinar Series will continue through May. The goal of the series is to provide important tools and information about employment during the COVID-19 Pandemic. This installment and all future webinars will be available for free on the Starkloff Disability Institute YouTube page.
