Starkloff helps Disrupt HR in St. Louis

Posted On:

You typically don’t find human resources’ advice at the Helium Comedy Club. But if you want to Disrupt HR, this is the best place to find it. On the evening of November 8, 130 HR practitioners gathered here to do just this.
SDI’s Sarah Schwegel was among 12 presenters in Disrupt HR 3.0, an HR event unlike any other. These dynamic speakers gave high-energy presentations, similar to TED Talks, but faster. The required presentation format: a 5-minute speech using 20 PowerPoint slides that advance automatically every 15 seconds.
Sarah’s talk, “Ramp up Your Talent Pool,” debunked myths about hiring people with disabilities in a fun, sassy and energetic way. She received rave reviews from the audience.
“Sarah Schwegel’s presentation brought our audience a very important message about hiring people with disabilities,” said Andrew Metcalf, Ogletree Deakins attorney and event organizer. “She presented in a Q&A format, posing sensitive questions that may cross the minds of leaders in the process of interviewing and hiring candidates with disabilities,” he continued. “Of course, we don’t always know how to answer those questions. Sarah offered the kind of solutions the HR industry looks for in that process.”
SDI was proud to be an Innovator Sponsor of the third annual Disrupt HR event organized by Metcalf and his law associate, James Paul.
“Disrupt provides us a new and exciting channel to communicate with HR professionals about hiring people with disabilities,” says Lori Becker, SDI’s COO and Director of Development and Communications. “Our participation in this high-energy, fun and intimate event gives people a chance to interact with professionals with disabilities and also gives us a chance to impart some knowledge. It’s a big win for everybody.”
Disruption came on all fronts. Topics covered included: The MeToo Movement, Coaching, Change Management, Sustainability, Recruiting, Training, Social Media and more. Disruptors were consultants and attorneys working in corporations. This cohort of disrupters presented a wide variety of relevant and trending topics that any HR professional would want to know. Look for more disruption in years to come!
