Meet the Expert Panel

Amy Gilbertson headshot.

Amy Gilbertson, FAIA, is a Principal at Trivers with 25 years of experience leading historic, civic, and hospitality projects. Her expertise in revitalizing historic structures includes work on 44 buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places and five National Historic Landmarks. A passionate advocate for integrating contemporary design solutions that promote accessibility, health, and wellness within historic contexts, Amy brings a forward-thinking approach to preserving and reimagining the built environment. She has been invited to speak at local, national, and international conferences on topics ranging from adaptive reuse and preservation to inclusive design strategies. Amy holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan, is a graduate of the CORO Women in Leadership program and serves on the University of Michigan Taubman College Alumni Council. In 2022, she was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows for her distinguished contributions to the stewardship and renewal of historic structures and is a member of the GSA’s National Registry of Peer Professionals.

Peter Uetrecht headhsot.

As Principal of Compass Design Build, Pete brings 35 years of experience and a lifelong passion for creating homes that blend craftsmanship and thoughtful design. A second-generation builder with a degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Missouri, Columbia, Pete is a strong advocate for Universal Design and believes that great homes should be welcoming, adaptable, and functional for people of all ages and abilities. He works closely with clients and design teams to integrate inclusive design principles that promote comfort, safety, and long-term livability—without compromising beauty or style. Recognized as a leader in Universal Design among St. Louis homebuilders, Pete has partnered with the Gary Sinise Foundation to build three universally designed homes for severely injured first responders and veterans. His homes have consistently earned “Custom Home of the Year” awards from the Home Builders Association of Greater St. Louis, and he is CAPS certified (Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist)—underscoring his commitment to accessible, future-ready living.

Bart van Vliet headshot.

Bart has more than twenty years of experience in the design, management and construction of a wide range of projects, specializing in aviation. His involvement has been from early design phases through construction administration. He worked in HOK’s Netherlands office before moving to San Francisco, and spent five years on-site working on Hamad International Airport. He has managed the New Terminal Facility for Monterey Regional Airport, ATMP Implementation (Stage 1) at LAX, the Courtyard 3 Connector project at SFO, a 23-gate South Concourse East for Salt Lake City International Airport and lead the construction administration for the North Node, and Concourse D and E of Hamad International Airport. Additional experience includes the NOAA Inouye Regional Center in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and 535 Mission Street office building in San Francisco. Bart is a licensed Architect in the State of California and Missouri, member of AIA, LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP accredited, and DBIA Professional.
