2025 Max Starkloff Society Celebration and Pioneer Award
Max Starkloff knew that employment was the key to full independence. A job brings purpose, economic opportunity, and community connection. He believed that everyone deserved the opportunity for a well-paying job—along with the freedom and dignity that came with it.
Earlier this month we recognized the tremendous impact the Max Starkloff Society, our most steadfast and generous partners in creating a world where disabled people thrive!
The Society is dedicated to preserving the legacy of our Founder, Max J. Starkloff through philanthropy. Since the founding of the Max Starkloff Society in 2013, this committed group of supporters has fueled programs that empowered over 900 people with disabilities and educated thousands of people across our community.
Recognizing a Pioneer: David A. Blanton, III
The spirit of disability rights pioneer Max J. Starkloff lives on through the recipients of the Pioneer Award. These extraordinary individuals forge a path through often difficult terrain so that people with disabilities can travel more freely to full and independent lives.
Pioneers are courageous; they are dreamers who believe in a better life; they are hopeful and optimistic, ready to face challenges.
Max Starkloff was a pioneer. This award is given to those special individuals who understand his mission and his journey, and who help carry on his legacy.
2026 Pioneer Award
in memory of David A. Blanton, III
whose pioneering spirit and transformative gift ignite a legacy of independence and opportunity through the Starkloff Disability Institute Endowment Fund
David served on the SDI board from 2016-2023, during which time he faithfully attended events, meetings, and served on the Development Committee. David brought warmth, wisdom, and extraordinary generosity to every space he entered. His belief in the dignity and potential of people with disabilities made him a powerful advocate and respected ally in our work.
The Honorable Jean Hamilton accepted on David’s behalf.
We are profoundly grateful for David’s leadership and his friendship. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the organizations he strengthened, and the city he helped shape.
