Moving the needle, not just checking a box.
We are transforming the community through top-level change that will have a big impact for people with disabilities and the corporate sector for years to come.
Consulting services are a cornerstone of our strategy to transform the region. Our approach is driven by empirical research and decades of professional experience. Our trainers are professionals with disabilities who bring their lived experiences and expertise to the table.
As the Workforce, Workplace Disability Advisor, we equip companies with the knowledge and resources to harness the talent of candidates with disabilities, enabling them to advance their corporate goals. Five St. Louis firms were the first to earn the title of Role Model Companies for Disability Equality: Centene, Enterprise Holdings, Monsanto, NestléPurina, and SSM Healthcare. Today, more than 50 Corporate Partners benefit from Starkloff Disability Institute’s expertise and technical assistance.
We help companies rebuild their approach to hiring and managing people with disabilities through a comprehensive program that moves the needle on inclusion, instead of just checking the box. We develop plans that connect with the company’s long-term strategy and overall business goals, moving from creating awareness, to changing their systems, and sustaining their inclusive culture.
Our work with companies includes reviewing job descriptions, interview practices, and performance management at every level. We provide a wealth of workshops, which are individualized to fit the needs of the organization. Topics include customer service, unconscious bias, inclusive interview practices, allyship, and reasonable accommodations. We also offer assistive technology demonstrations to help employers plan for future workplace adaptations.
Starkloff also offers accessibility evaluations, which helps companies create a truly inclusive and accessible workplace and user experience. While the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) sets a baseline standard of accessibility for modern buildings, the Starkloff facilities evaluation focuses on the ideal user experience rather than minimum legal compliance. Accessibility evaluations result in technical reports with checklists of recommendations to create a more inclusive experience for people with all types of disabilities.
Starkloff Disability Employment Summit
Our annual conference for HR, People Ops, corporate leaders, recruiters and more is the largest event focused on disability inclusion in the Midwest. Companies learn how to build disability inclusion in the workplace through topics such as disability self-identification, accommodations, and recruitment. Disability experts facilitate real-world scenarios and interactive exercises, and participants leave with a better understanding of how to hire and manage people with disabilities.
