Our candidate programs empower people with disabilities to take control of their careers and succeed in competitive professions. Through community and employer programs, we show that disability is normal and assist companies in implementing inclusive hiring and customer service practices. Working at the micro and macro levels, Starkloff is changing hearts and minds and building a community where disabled people can thrive.
Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deafblind Community: Karyn Houston, our Deaf and Hard of Hearing Outreach Coordinator, works across all programs. If ASL is your preferred language, connect with Karyn over video phone to learn more: (314) 766-4636
Candidate Programs
We work with people with all types of disabilities across the St. Louis area and beyond, ranging in age from pre-teens to retirement. Most are unemployed or underemployed, working in jobs well below their education levels and abilities. SDI is here when you are ready to take the next step for your professional future.
- Starkloff Career Academy: Adult professionals with disabilities gain the skills to get a job and find lifelong career success in this program with tracks designed for entry-level all the way to the C-suite.
- Access U: Closes the gaps between college and career for students with a focus on internships.
- Dream Big: Career exploration and disability confidence prepare transition-age youth (6th – 12th grade) for success as independent adults.
Employer and Community Programs (Disabled and Nondisabled Audiences)
In order for the disabled community to achieve full equity and inclusion, we have to change the systems that keep people with disabilities out of workplaces, homes, social activities, and public spaces. The law is on our side; now, it’s up to disability advocates and everyday people like you to stand up and change society.
- Employer Education and Inclusion Consulting: Businesses and organizations ready to change their approach to hiring, workplace accommodations, and more, to increase inclusion for employees and customers.
- Universal Design: Create environments and products that can be used, accessed, and understood by everyone, regardless of age, size, or disability.
- Community Education: Outreach and collaborations to break down stigma and fear and create a world where everyone is accepted.
- Request a Speaker: Connect with us to bring a disability expert to your event.
