What is DREAM BIG?
DREAM BIG is a program that aims to inspire high school students with disabilities or IEP’s to DREAM BIG about their careers. The goal is to broaden the horizons of college and career-bound students by introducing them to a wide variety of jobs and professionals in growing industries.
What will students learn?
- All about careers and the skills and education needed to obtain them.
- Internships, summer jobs, and mentoring opportunities.
- How to select the right college and classes that fit their dreams.
- Important consideration about living independently after high school.
When and where will the activities take place?
June 12-16, 2017
9:00a.m. -4:00p.m. Students may begin being dropped off at 8:00a.m. each day.
A different business will host DREAM BIG students each day. The tentative schedule is:
Monday, June 12: Cortex Innovation Center
Tuesday, June 13: T-Rex Technology
Wednesday, June 14: Monsanto
Thursday, June 15: Nestle Purina PetCare
Friday, June 16: Centene Corporation and Busch Stadium
Is transportation provided?
No. Families are responsible for drop off and pick up at each event location each day. It is imperative that families commit to providing transportation to and from each location on each day.
Can students use their cell phones?
Yes. Students are encouraged to take pictures and video in designated areas and post on social media platforms. Don’t forget #dreambig.
Are accommodations provided?
Yes. Please indicate what type of accommodation is needed when registering. Sign language interpreters will be provided upon request. Dietary needs will also be met.
Is there a fee to attend?
No. This program is free of charge, but advance registration is required and space is limited.
Can anyone participate?
Any high school student with a disability or an IEP is eligible to apply. Space is limited.
Who sponsors this program?
DREAM BIG was developed by the Starkloff Disability Institute in collaboration with the Special School District of St. Louis County.
