What is the SDI Universal Design Summit?

200+ Attendees

Architects, engineers, design build firms, developers, interior designers, OTs and PTs, students, disability advocates, people seeking resources about aging in place, and interested community members.

3 Days

Keynotes from thought leaders, breakouts with innovators in the field, workshops, product demos, professional CEUs, tours showcasing UD in the real world.

24 Years

Expertise and experience gained over Starkloff Disability Institute’s UD programming, beginning with the first Universal Design Summit in 2002.

Starkloff Disability Institute is once again convening North America’s leading conference on Universal Design (UD).

Universal Design is not about meeting legal codes around accessibility, it is about creating places and spaces that work better for every body.

The structure of our world shapes who gets to participate, who is welcome, and who thrives.

Barriers aren’t about the limits of a person’s body—they’re built into the environment. Poor lighting, noisy spaces, and inaccessible technology quietly limit access to jobs, homes, and civic and social participation.

Curb cuts are one example of Universal Design in action: Designed for accessibility and beneficial for parents with strollers, travelers with luggage, delivery workers, cyclists…really, everyone.
